the direct path to sustainability

Sustainable Building Solutions is traveling across the U.S. to educate architects, engineers, business owners and many others in the industry about sustainability, LEED, WELL and ASHRAE certifications.

To help audiences understand what goes into making a sustainable building SBS Director, Phil Vetterkind, explains one of his past successful projects, Gateway West Sustainable I.

Gateway West Sustainable I in Brookfield, WI is considered one of the most sustainable buildings in the state of Wisconsin as verified by LEED standards. Sustainable Building Solutions provided LEED consulting and project administration for the project which was awarded LEED Triple Platinum certification, one of only a few in the world.  Additionally, the building has achieved an Energy Star score as high as 99.

As years pass and standards become increasingly higher, sustainability isn’t a one and done concept. It is a process that needs continuous improvements.

“You Can’t Build ‘Em Like You Used To” is a case study and presentation that compares Gateway West at the time of its construction to today’s LEED and ASHRAE standards.

Vetterkind has given over 30 presentations across Wisconsin, Illinois and traveling outside the Midwest to Denver, CO.

“I want people to walk away knowing that sustainability needs constant effort and improvement to be more efficient,” said Vetterkind. “Yesterday’s platinum rating is not good enough for today.”

Sustainable Building Solutions not only works towards green construction, but wants to spread awareness of the issue of sustainable building.

Sustainable Building Solutions is a green construction advisory firm that works directly for building owners, architects and general contractors to identify and implement project specific sustainability goals including USGBC LEED and Energy Star certifications.
